The Deal was my very first encounter with talented Elle Kennedy and everything I need in a good romance. The book was heartwarming and unexpectedly profound, with lots of cute bickering and hilarious banter and sensual feelings that ended up rocking my world. To be completely honest, it took me by surprise, since I didn’t expect much from a typical love story about a jock falling for an ‘invisible girl’ within the existing framework of NA. How wrong was I! This was an unequivocal love story between two enormously strong and courageous people, possessing unique personality traits and passion for things dear to their hearts.
“I never expected her. Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don’t know how you ever lived with them. How you went about your day and hung out with your friends and f*cked other people without having this one important person in your life.”
Hannah Wells wasn’t a cliche ‘invisible’ girl. She neither hid from the cruel world despite her traumatic past nor shied away from ‘unwanted‘ attention being her outspoken nerdy self, and she definitely wasn’t afraid to give her heart to someone worthy (and OMG I envy her so much in the end). Garrett Graham appeared to be a typical popular jock, a confident and cocky flirt used to women throwing themselves at him and never refusing him anything, but that was all a mask and armor to shield him from the remnants of the pain he experienced firsthand since a very young age. You know how people say that opposites attract? In the case of Hannah and Garrett, it wasn’t the differences but the way they empowered each other by sharing the warmth of their hearts still capable of love despite the painful and hurtful pasts.
