SYNOPSIS

Once again, Flirting with 40 by K. Bromberg was one of those cases when the cover basically sold me the book. But don’t get me wrong here, I absolutely loved this flirty and light-hearted novel about an older woman trying to find herself after so many years wasted on a total jerk. Because who knows whether you or I will one day find ourselves in the exact same situation?

To a woman who was stunning in a classic, sophisticated way that intrigued me. She was confidence laced with insecurity, defiance edged by doubt, and a captivating nature that shined through every so often when she let her guard down and forgot she was supposed to be angry.

Blakely Foxx was originally a strong and intelligent woman but with lots of insecurities mostly surrounding her age. She was going through a rather devastating mid-life crisis and having a hard time to get her mind away from presumed failings on her part. Blakely was gorgeous, but her stupid fixation on the negative, as well as never-ending insecurities annoyed me so much that I just had to drop my rating a tad bit. I understood how they were important in the plot so that she could become a better version of herself, with the help of Slade, of course. But the over-repetitiveness just killed me.

Slade Henderson was literally perfect. Oftentimes, too perfect to be true, even for a fictional character… Slade was extremely loveable. Smart, charming, and charismatic. I appreciated his openness and honesty, as well as his tireless attempts to push Blakely to step outside her comfort zone so that she could finally see for an amazing woman she was. And it absolutely didn’t hurt that he was a driven professional of high moral standards. Too good… Am I right, or am I right?

“Let it go. Take the ride. Put your toes in the sand. Howl at the moon. Do whatever it is you want to do so long as it’s in pursuit of finding you again.”

The overall dynamic between Blakely and Slade was a great balance between sweet and hot. Right from the start, the two shared some sort of a strong connection that made it really easy and natural for Slade to act as the swooniest fake boyfriend ever. It honestly felt like their relationship was meant to be.

I don’t know what else to add. The book was such a quick and enjoyable read. Precisely what one might want to check out during the times when real life literally sucks. Don’t even hesitate!
