BOOK REVIEW
Lylah James writes some really entertaining stories that give off all the feels from the very first page on. Do You Dare? was no different. This enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance was torturously angsty and deliciously slow burn. I’ve been kept on the edge of my seat throughout the whole bumpy ride of a very exciting but complicated relationship between Maddox and Lila.
Maddox Coulter was neither Prince Charming nor the... villain. He was something else, and I didn’t know exactly where to place him.
To everyone, Maddox Coulter was the golden boy on campus, Berkshire’s star quarterback and ‘king’. To his parents, he was a disappointment. To himself, he was the boy trapped in the closet. And when it comes to me, there was something about the guy that made him feel mysteriously unique in that weird bookish sense. His character had so many different layers, which might have initially given some bad vibes but with time, revealed the depth to the flawed but extremely sweet boy. He was a boy filled with rage, but beautiful blue eyes of his held a broken song...
Lila had been through hell and back. That was the most beautiful part of her; she was a woman who wore her pain like a diamond choker around her neck. Strong, unyielding... a survivor.
Lila Garcia was a strong female character who went through a lot of shit but managed to stay on top of her game. She was feisty, sassy, and just lovely. But oftentimes, still clueless as fuck… I appreciated her resolve to not back down when something unfortunate happened to her, her ability to strike back, and her determination to just be happy. But like Maddox, behind all the hard edges of a carefully built exterior, Lila was a somewhat lost girl with a broken heart who every single day did her very best to survive…
“I’m not going to be your Knight because I know you aren’t a damsel in distress. You’re more like the dragon in the fairy tale.”
You could clearly see a special connection Maddox and Lila shared from the very first encounter of theirs. The similarities between the two damaged people were too striking not to notice. They balanced each other—she was the calm in his reckless life, while he was the chaos in her relatively peaceful one. Their passion and the fight they gave to this tiring world were thrilling and interesting to watch. The chemistry and tension were palpable. The sex scene seemed vivid and hot. But the ‘I got you’ scenes were definitely my favourite ones.

Lylah James created a beautifully written and painfully addicting book. Maddox and Lila’s romance will keep your eyes glued to this page-turner. It will make you scream from the never-ending frustration and breath-taking anticipation of the long-awaited turn of the events. Highly recommend!
NOTE: Although there is a cliffhanger in the end, I think that if you don’t read the EPILOGUE, you’re good to go without the second book (which I still haven’t read yet). But the duet is complete now in case you want to, so no need to worry!
