1. DID I MENTION I LOVE YOU? by Estelle Maskame

SYNOPSIS

Love is everything but expected.

Eden Monro came to California for a summer of sun, sand, and celebrities. What better way to forget about the drama back home? Until she meets her new family of strangers: a dad she hasn't seen in three years, a stepmother and three stepbrothers.

Eden gets her own room in her dad's fancy house in Santa Monica. A room right next door to her oldest stepbrother, Tyler Bruce. Whom she cannot stand. He's got angry green eyes and ego bigger than a Beverly Hills mansion. She's never felt such intense dislike for someone. But the two are constantly thrown together as his group of friends pull her into their world of rule-breaking, partying and pier-hanging.

And the more she tries to understand what makes Tyler burn hotter than the California sun, the more Eden finds herself falling for the one person she shouldn't...

4. JUST DON’T MENTION IT by Estelle Maskame

SYNOPSIS

Can love heal all wounds?

At seventeen, Tyler Bruce is hot ― a hot mess. His girlfriend is a knockout, his reputation's untouchable, parties are nothing without him. Even his car is unreal. But inside Tyler is broken ― and he'll stop at nothing to keep that a secret.

Then one summer Eden comes to stay. She's upfront, sharp and far more enticing than a stepsister should be. She also sees straight through Tyler's bad-boy façade to the vulnerable kid within. The quiet kid who took all the punches. As Eden draws Tyler in, his defenses start to crumble around him. In his past, the vulnerability only brought him danger. But now, it might just bring him everything he needs...if it doesn't break him.

As irresistible and dazzling as its Californian backdrop, Just Don't Mention It is a companion novel to the Did I Mention I Miss You trilogy that explores Tyler's story ― his heart-stopping tale of past hurt, finding hope and figuring out who the hell he wants to be.

BOOK REVIEW

Estelle Maskame did an amazing and truly inspiring job with her first ever published book series. She started it at the age of 13 and finished by turning 16. Mind-blowing, right? Besides, I must say that I was really impressed by the descriptions of the places in the books (the girl did thorough research, I’m sure). The hike up to the Hollywood sign and the general LA landscape, some New York destinations scenes made me feel like I was there.

I first heard about DIMILY from my little middle school sister who I had an arrangement with — to read books that she finds interesting/entertaining together in order to break down the focal points and discuss the existing problems. To be honest, in the very beginning I was a bit unsure of her choice… I mean, the book covers with the bright colors and random pics arranged in a Paint style just threw me off. I was originally thinking this was going to be yet another painful Queen B wannabe story but no… this was actually quite good. I got instantly hooked.

As with all teenage romances, there had to be angst, lots of drama, and a bit of the forbidden. DIMILY was truly about Eden and her growth as a young woman. It’s an excellent portrayal of a teenage girl's life in the 21st century. Eden had to adjust to her blended family, try to feel pretty, be body conscious, and make friends, all while falling in love for the first time. She was someone all young people can relate to. Although very much a young love story, this tale also addresses some very serious issues, such as betrayal, drug abuse, child abuse, and peer pressure.

As usual, I don’t want to spoil much, but I need to say that I was shook by some twists and turns of certain events, and I absolutely loved that the author didn't gloss over the consequences of both Eden's and Tyler’s actions. Their journey to finding themselves and true love didn't go smoothly, to put it mildly. Their relationships were thrown into turmoil because of the choices made. But they felt raw and real.

Thanks to DIMILY, my little sister learned to deal with her numerous insecurities, and most importantly, to open up to people.
