1. THE PROPOSAL by Maya Hughes

SYNOPSIS

When I envisioned Zara Logan dropping to her knees in front of me, this wasn’t what I had in mind... I was expecting a lot less glaring and a lot more moaning. Instead, she’s proposing an enticing deal that I can’t bear to walk away from.

To land one of the city’s biggest clients, she wants us to put our differences aside and play fake fiancés for the next thirty days. So, I slip the diamond ring onto her finger and agree to play the perfect fiancé. How hard can this be?

A hell of a lot harder than I thought... She’s infuriatingly stubborn and she thinks I’m a cocky jerk with an enormous ego. (She’s right, but I can definitely back it up...)

As our long days stretch into even later nights, it’s getting harder to remember we’re only playing pretend, which means one thing. She won’t be faking it for long…

BOOK REVIEW

The Proposal is the very first installment of SWANK, Maya Hughes’s newest series.

“Leo was the best distraction I’d ever discovered and I couldn’t wait for another taste. But what happened when we stopped playing pretend?”

The book was a quick and easy read about the development of quite an adorable relationship between Zara Logan and Leo Wilder who had a rocky start but had to stick together as a pretend-to-be engaged couple in order to secure a big job-related client. Both of the main characters were determined and kind-hearted but not without flaws, of course. I loved their cute banter and amazing chemistry. But sometimes, their decisions seemed stupid and thus, annoyed me greatly…

An interesting feature of the new series was a unique set of friends (I really enjoy how the author arranged the dynamics within the group just like in the Fulton U series). August, Jameson, Hunter, and Everest played a significant role in the unfolding of the events, and I cannot wait for their books (Hunter’s book is the next one, I believe).

Overall, The Proposal was a good rom-com to distract from a sad daily routine.

2. THE SWEETEST THING by Maya Hughes

SYNOPSIS

Sabrina Mason is my new roommate. My new unwelcome roommate. Babysitting my Grandma’s apartment means Sabrina’s here to stay. But we’d agreed my room was off-limits.

It’s bad enough my nightmares are getting worse, but having her around makes holding it together a little easier. Her smell, smart mouth, and sexy a—anyway. I can’t let her get under my skin although it might be too late. In her sloppy bun and pajamas curled up on the couch, she’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. But a relationship isn’t what I need right now.

It’s hard to remember that when she’s glowering at me when I’m being an ass. We’re forced to live together for only a few more months, I can hold out until I can’t.

She’s in my bathtub and she’s not telling me to leave. So I ask the question, ‘do you want me to go?’ And I’m shocked as hell when her answer isn’t ‘yes’.
