After Movie Franchise

After, 2019

Based on Anna Todd’s best-selling novel, After movie follows Tessa (Josephine Langford), a dedicated student, dutiful daughter and loyal girlfriend to her high school sweetheart, as she enters her first semester in college. Armed with grand ambitions for her future, her guarded world opens up when she meets the dark and mysterious Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin), a magnetic, brooding rebel who makes her question all she thought she knew about herself and what she wants out of life.

After is a 2019 American romantic drama film directed by Jenny Gage with a screenplay by Jenny Gage, Susan McMartin, and Tamara Chestna based on the 2014 new adult fan-fiction novel of the same title written by Anna Todd. The movie stars Josephine Langford as Tessa Young, a college student who begins a turbulent relationship with ‘bad boy’ Hardin Scott, played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin.

Hero Beauregard Faulkner Fiennes-Tiffin (November 6, 1997) is an English actor and model assigned with Storm Models best known for his role as Hardin Scott in After and as young Tom Riddle aka Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Josephine Langford (August 18, 1997) is an Australian actress best known for her role as Tessa Young in After. She also played Darcie Chapman in Wish Upon and appeared in the Hulu television series Into The Dark.

The movie was released in the United States by Aviron Pictures on April 12, 2019. It received generally unfavorable reviews from critics, who criticized the depiction of romance and the slow plot. The fans were also disappointed, myself included. I would say the plot was fairly different from the book and thus lacking the charm of Anna Todd’s original work. There were some weird-ass confusing transitions and an overall absence of good dialogues, which made it almost impossible to follow the events. Let me say that the majority of people not familiar with the book were mostly lost in the cinemas. In general, the movie was very very rushed. In the end, I was like, “What the hell.”

There are very good and funny reviews to give you a perspective:

Honestly, the movie should have flopped but the fanbase of the franchise is huge and still pretty much supportive, again myself included. Three Teen Choice Awards (Choice Drama Movie Actor, Choice Drama Movie Actress, and Choice Drama Movie) were secured and After even won a People’s Choice Awards as a Favorite Drama Movie.

Based on Anna Todd’s best-selling novel, After We Collided movie continues to follow Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin). This time around, Tessa has everything to lose, while Hardin has nothing to lose, except her. After a tumultuous beginning to their relationship, they embark on the path to making things work. Tessa knew Hardin could be cruel, but when a bombshell revelation is dropped about the origins of their relationship—and Hardin’s mysterious past—Tessa is beside herself.

Check out the recap of After before diving into After We Collided:

After We Collided, a sequel to After was first released on September 2, 2020. It received generally more favorable reviews from the fans than its predecessor. I would say the plot was definitely closer to the book this time around (the majority of the scenes felt familiar), but still lacked the essence of Anna Todd’s original work. The dialogues were more coherent, while the transitions were smoother but still jumpy at times. I’d say that the movie was primarily made for the fans since those who haven’t read the books would feel lost because of a rapid change in comparison to the first installment. In general, the movie was alright. Humor was there, emotions were sort of there… But once again, I’m certain that the books would have been much better off if turned into a TV series rather than movies.

PS. I must say that the After franchise is the messiest one I’ve ever witnessed. Like seriously, WTF is going on?

Based on Anna Todd’s best-selling novel, After We Fell movie continues to follow Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin). This time around, just as Tessa makes the biggest decision of her life, everything changes. Revelations about her family, and then Hardin’s, throw everything they knew before in doubt and make their hard-won future together more difficult to claim.

After We Fell is a 2021 American romantic drama film directed by Castille Landon and based on the 2014 new adult fan-fiction novel of the same title written by Anna Todd. The movie stars Josephine Langford as Tessa Young, a college student who begins a turbulent relationship with ‘bad boy’ Hardin Scott, played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin.

As it was mentioned before, the After franchise, in general, has been very messy for some unknown reasons. Anna Todd didn’t participate in the shootings this time around after an awful scandal with the involvement of certain leaks. Also, there were some cast changes once again. Sigh.

The movie was shot alongside After Ever Happy.

After We Fell follows Tessa’s life as it begins to come unglued. Nothing is what she thought it was. Not her friends. Not her family. The one person she should be able to rely on, Hardin, is furious when he discovers the massive secret she’s been keeping. And rather than being understanding, he turns to sabotage.

This time around, I would say that the aesthetic, as well as acting, got significantly better. The problem though is that the entire franchise screwed too much initially and as a result, my expectation bar is very very low. The actors were different, the storyline was not cohesive and oftentimes felt out of the blue. Honestly, there is not much I can say about the movie. It was… alright.

There are very good and funny reviews to give you a perspective:

Based on Anna Todd’s best-selling novel, After Ever Happy movie continues to follow Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin). This time around, as a shocking truth about a couple’s families emerges, the two lovers discover they are not so different from each other. Tessa is no longer the sweet good girl she was when she met Hardin—any more than he is the cruel, moody boy she fell so hard for.

After Ever Happy is a 2022 American romantic drama film directed by Castille Landon and based on the 2014 new adult fan-fiction novel of the same title written by Anna Todd. The movie stars Josephine Langford as Tessa Young, a college student who begins a turbulent relationship with ‘bad boy’ Hardin Scott, played by Hero Fiennes-Tiffin.

Sure, Tessa and Hardin have jumped through many hoops that in their turn, have managed to strengthen their relationship and love. But when the truth about their families has come out, Tessa is the only person capable of understanding and ‘containing’ Hardin, but the secret he carries is so great that it forces her to withdraw from absolutely everything. Even her soulmate.

Well, surprise, surprise! We are not done yet:

After everything final chapter

After Everything, 2023

The official description states that the final chapter centers on a teenage Hardin, who is navigating his first love??? Isn’t Tessa supposed to be his first love??? Sigh.

I wish they just wrap up this nonsense already. Sigh.
